THE ASSAULT ON AMERICA --
THREAT NOT RECOGNIZED

The depth of America's vulnerability to terror -- and the kind of threat the United States faces -- remain hidden from most Americans. The subject is manipulated as a partisan election issue, and as a political weapon by the elite media.

The report of a chemical attack in the African nation of Sudan has received scant attention. UPI and AFP provided short reports, and International News Analysis supplied to its readers a more detailed account from the original report in the German news daily, Die Welt.

The elite U.S. media to date, however, have ignored the event.

Syria, known to have developed chemical weapons and suspected by several sources of having hidden weapons of mass destruction for Saddam Hussein, has negotiated with the Communist governments of China and North Korea for missile technology. Syria is also aiding the anti-American insurgents in Iraq, both Socialist Baath Party remnants and fundamentalist Islamic fighters.

It would follow that any Syrian activity should be watched carefully - but the major media seems unconcerned.

Sudan's fundamentalist Islamic government has for years carried out what U.S. Secretary Collin Powell recently described as a war of "genocide" against Christian and animist (pagan) tribes in the south and west of that nation. Sudan's central government in Khartoum currently assists Arab tribal raiders known as "janjaweed" to exterminate unwanted populations.

A Catholic bishop in the Darfur region called Khartoum's policy in his area "Arabization."

Sudan also has a close relationship with China. The southern region of Sudan has significant oil reserves. Chinese oil firms are active in Sudan extracting oil and then shipping it back to China.

The United Nations has again voted to call on Sudan to stop the atrocities in Darfur, but China made clear that it would veto any sanction to enforce the resolution. China abstained from voting for the resolution, as did Russia, Algeria, and Pakistan.

Sudan also enjoys the support of the Arab League.

The level of atrocity in Sudan is so great, and the response of the "international community" is so timid, that even Germany has threatened to intervene, if no other action is taken. German Defense Minister Peter Struck recently declared that "We cannot simply watch" as "genocide" occurs, reported Die Welt.

Struck's position is a remarkable rejection of the "internationalist" position -- that nations can only act with UN approval -- expressed often in the United Nations and the U.S. Democratic Party.

Sudan should grab America's attention, because America may be the next target of Syrian chemical weapons.

Sudan is a startling example of genocide assisted by Communist and pro-terror states, with the additional aspect of chemical warfare experimentation.

Sudan is playing the same role as did Spain shortly before WWII. The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) was a proving ground for weapons later used in WWII. The use of Syrian chemical weapons in Sudan places Sudan is in the same position today as Spain was in over sixty years ago. The war on terror is becoming truly a World War -- with America as the prime target

Most of the major media resist considering this possibility, as they resist informing the public of other developments related to the war on terror.

Several reports have recently appeared detailing Marxist Venezuela purchase of 50 MiG-29 fighter aircraft.

Venezuela, under the leadership of Hugo Chavez, is fast becoming another Communist Cuba. Chavez makes no secret of his admiration of Fidel Castro, and has even spoken with glowing approval of the Stalinist state of North Korea. Chavez is reported to be aiding the Marxist rebels in neighboring Colombia, and is on friendly terms with representatives of pro-terror networks.

Chavez' ultimate goal is to establish a continent-wide Marxist state which would rival the "empire to the North" - the United States.

The elite media is ignoring the MiG sale to Venezuela, and, as a result, important questions concerning the safety of the United States go unasked and unanswered.

The people of the United States not only must know of this and similar developments, but also must demand to know why Russia, our purported partner in the war on terror, is arming the Marxist, pro-terror government of Hugo Chavez.

In December 2003, Russia's then-Foreign Minister, Igor Ivanov, declared that there is "big potential" in Russian-Venezuelan ties. In view of the MiG sales, the question arises as to the kind of "potential" Russia sees in the Marxist Chavez, and who are our real allies in the war on terror?
